3G licensing in Pakistan by January 2013: PTAOnce again, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has given another deadline for 3G licensing in Pakistan.

While talking to a TV channel, Chairman PTA, Farooq Awan has said that authority is determined to go one step further in the cellular industry.

According to Chairman, on getting the approval from Auction Supervisory Committee PTA has hired 3 international experts who will assist the authority in executing the licensing process. The experts will make possible 3G licensing in a 3 month time by January 2013.

Chairman further said that existing and new international players will be taking part in the auction process that will be done through a software in order to maintain the transparency.

Government of Pakistan is expected to get USD 900 million through the auction whereas, another USD 1 billion will be invested by the successful bidders, added Chairman

PTA will pay the experts half a million dollar as a part of their contract fee.

    They are banning everything and then they expect foreign investor to come in and invest here. give them 900 mn and then spend further 1bn. how poor strategy makers…at least give them confidence that the country is investor friendly

    I don’t believe PTA…for last 3 years they have been announcing 3G dates and every time we hear that it has been delayed due to certain reasons. its all political. PPP govt wants it to happen in their regime for taking the credit and money as well. And who knows any abcd company of Rehman Malik is interested to bid and win the license:)
